You are the one who makes the journey through the looking glass.
Take courage.

Iwa Pele @ Deptford X Fringe Festival 2018

I would like to invite you to my newest collaboration presented @ Deptford X Fringe Festival 2018:

Iwa Pele – a visual dance research collaboration by Kathrin Gramelsberger with Maarten Krielen and Anne Verheij

Iwa Pele is a concept from the Nigerian Yoruba religion and means balanced character. In Iwa Pele three artists go in search of this balance.
Nigerian-German initiator and choreographer Kathrin Gramelsberger explores her mixed heritage.
Inspired by Orisha – deities of the Yoruba people, this visual dance performance combines video art, Nigerian celebration dances and contemporary dance in a distorted way to discuss tradition and identity creating new points of view.

ANNE • goes Japanese

Last month Miku and I took our collaboration to the next boarder: Japan!

We have explored Japan’s city Tokyo and the rural environment of the Izu Peninsula through film and movement.

Whilst filming the theme of the individual versus the mass crept into our frame. Not only does Japan have millions of people living in just one city or travelling over the many highways and train tracks, it also has a great individual disconnect with its direct surroundings.
Dark subject matters as loneliness and the high suicide rate amongst the young generation made their appearance.
The beauty of Japan’s unplanned architectural compositions, however, gave us calligraphy lines to move and explore.

Miku and I are looking to deepen this movement research in a country that has so many beautiful contrasts.

So stay tuned for more exciting projects across borders @AnnePointNL

Dance and the moving image research with Harriet Latham

Yesterday Harriet Latham and I dived back into the physical part of our summer collaboration.

Over the past couple of months we have been filming, watching and talking about our collaboration and now we are back to filming.
One of the key points in this research is the trust that we have in each other and each others work approach. The space this creates for our individual and dual growth is fascinating and encouraging. It takes our work process to the next level where we have the freedom to try new things.

We are on the move!
